Stock wire fencing explained
Stock wire fencing follows standard style codes to help you understand the different configurations, such as C8/80/15. The first letter refers to the wire type, and might include the following letters:
L = Light Mild Steel
C – Medium Mild Steel
B – Heavy Mild Steel
LHT – Light High Tensile
HT – High Tensile
The number after this refers to the number of horizontal wires in the fence. Next, we have the height of the fencing, in centimetres, and the final number is the distance between the vertical wires, in centimetres.
Our stock fencing is made from premium quality galvanised steel that offers superior durability, even in harsh weather conditions and exposed sites. The strongest option is high tensile wire, but this is also the most difficult to work with. Light medium steel offers the most flexible option that will be easiest to install. Stock fencing is often paired with straining wire to hold tension. It can also be topped with barbed wire as a further deterrent to animals and humans.
It can be more cost-effective to buy fencing with larger spaces, as there will be less wire needed to create the fence. However, you need to consider the application. Stock fencing is commonly used to keep specific animals contained, while also helping to prevent unwanted animals from getting onto your land.
You might need stock fencing that is specifically lamb-safe or pheasant-safe. This would be fencing with larger spaces between the vertical wires to help prevent lambs from getting their heads stuck in the fencing.
