Choosing the right chicken feeders and drinkers
Poultry feeders and drinkers are essential for anyone keeping birds. Chicken feeders are commonly supplemented with ground feeding to help encourage foraging, but it’s helpful to have feeders set up to ensure a steady supply of grain. Plus, the feeder keeps it elevated and prevents the feed from getting mixed up with any mess on the ground.
We offer a variety of poultry feeders and drinkers, including some affordable factory seconds, making it more economical to keep chickens and game birds. These factory seconds are equally well made, but there may be some inconsistencies in the design.

How many chicken feeders and drinkers do I need?
In general, you will need a 25-litre drinker and a 15kg feeder for every 10 birds. In the summer, the birds will need more water to keep them cool and hydrated. Ensuring there are enough feeders is essential to make sure the larger birds don’t monopolise the feeders.
Do you need chicken feeders?
Chickens are very messy eaters and will kick their feed around if it is scattered on the floor. This can attract vermin and pests and can also spread disease among your chicken population. The food could become contaminated if the birds kick their feed into their mess; therefore, chicken feeders can prevent the spread of disease significantly and are therefore recommended for anyone keeping chickens.
Should chicken feeders be in the coop or run?
The best place to place your chicken feeders is wherever your chickens spend the most time. If they stay in the coop most of the day, you’re best at placing them there, but consider placing them around both the coop and the run to help the bigger birds from monopolising the feed.
Should chickens have access to food all day?
Having a constant supply of food and water for your chickens can help significantly reduce stress amongst your flock, which helps create a calm and healthy environment for your chickens. So yes, your chickens should have access to food from the moment they get up to the moment they go to sleep at night.
